Daddy Close Your Eyes

The little princess in our family led me by the hand saying, " Daddy close your eyes and come see what I made." I followed peeking just enough to make sure I wouldn't run into a wall or step on a Lego brick. Once we reached the "studio" I was allowed to really see. "Daddy! I made our Church out of blocks!" she beamed. "And look! There is our green car" (It just so happened to be the fisher price forklift). She was all smiles at her creation. Children are wonderful.

Little-known facts

"Did you know that when you put a shop vac up to your hair that it will suck the sweat off when you're hot?"
And another little tidbit:
Little Knight said: "Look Dad I have egg muscles!"

More Zoo pictures

This hippo kept going around and around so it made it easy to take many pictures and get good shots.

Our Little Smurf

The Littlest Princess put on my winter hat and looked very much like a little smurf, too adorable not to post.

Blue's Clues

I was just notified by my little knight that if I would watch more Blue's Clues then "I could do anything, that I want to do." Of course, this great piece of wisdom came right after finishing an episode with Steve.

Makeup

The littlest angel in our family came out of her parent's bathroom with her hand over her mouth.
"Why are you covering your mouth?"
"I don't want it. I don't want it. I washed it off."
She didn't want anyone to see the red smeary lipstick she had been trying on and couldn't really get off. And now she realized she might get caught unless she could hide it. (This funny episode happened a while ago, however, I am not able to locate a picture!)

On our way out West

Being in the car too long makes us crazy! Crossing the state line this morning. We should be in New Mexico by night.

A Blessed Journey

We recently took a journey towards the middle of our state and camped at Lane Springs. It is a place we use often when we get off to a slow start on such journeys. The weather was wonderful and the mosquitoes seemed to be sparse. It was a nice time considering all the sickness little knight was going through, throughout the night. We brought our portable water closet to post outside the tent. After many trips during the night to the water closet, we got it down to an organized system of steps. He was a good little trooper. Here are some of us having fun outside the tent.

Am I still five?

The day after Benjamin turned five he woke up and wondered out loud, "Am I still five?" He had waited so long, it seemed, to be five that it might not still be true. . . "Yes, dear, you are still five."

The clink of cups and knights having milk toast

"I don't want to play Knights with him! All his knights ever do is go on picnics and have lunch!" My wife told me about this exchange between her and Joseph about his younger brother, Benjamin and I laughed out loud. I could see the picture in my head of Joseph trying to engage in battle with the castle all decked out with spearmen, knights, and the like while Benjamin brings his knights riding up, "Do you want to have a picnic?" Instead of the sounds of death and mayhem around the castle, you hear the clink of cups and knights having milk toast.

Well, so that is how this blog received its name: Knights at a Picnic.

I hope to have more fun lines to write as seen through the eyes of our children--as family is really what it is all about, even though I often forget. My wife reminds me when you are dying you won't be telling me, "I wish I spent more time at the office."

I am sure I will find all sorts of things on which to write.
